ALBA-TCP condemns US for putting economic pressure against Cuba
In an official statement, the regional bloc criticized the U.S. government's move to reactivate and update Presidential Memorandum No. 5, originally enacted under the Trump administration, saying the decision intensifies the long-standing embargo on the island nation.
The bloc stated that the renewed measures are aimed at destabilizing Cuba and pushing for regime change by targeting key areas such as tourism, healthcare, migration, cultural and academic relations, and access to technology.
It further accused the U.S. of seeking control over Cuba’s future and reaffirmed ALBA-TCP’s firm support for the Cuban government and its people, emphasizing the importance of defending national sovereignty, independence, and self-determination.
